Who we are

Hoopspot ("Hoopspot", "we", "us") operates the Hoopspot pickup basketball app and website. Hoopspot is the data controller for personal data processed through the app. You can reach us through the in-app profile page for any privacy questions.

What we collect

  • Account info — email, display name, and (if you sign in with Google) the basic profile info Google shares.
  • App activity — courts you add, check-ins, quest submissions and votes, matches you report, and messages you send inside the app.
  • Technical data — standard log data such as your device type and approximate location derived from your IP so the app works properly.

How we use it

  • To run the core features: showing courts, check-ins, quests, teams, matches, and ratings.
  • To keep the app safe by moderating reports and preventing abuse.
  • To communicate with you about your account.
  • To provide, bill for, and support paid features such as Hoopspot Pro.

Legal basis for processing

We rely on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (running your account and delivering paid features you subscribe to), legitimate interests (keeping the service secure, preventing abuse, and improving the product), consent (for optional push notifications and any marketing communications), and legal obligation (for tax, accounting, and responding to lawful requests).

What other users see

Your display name, check-ins, teams, ranked matches, ratings, and any quest submissions you post are visible to other signed-in users. Don't post anything you wouldn't want other players to see.

Who we share data with

We share personal data only with the categories of recipients needed to run Hoopspot:

  • Hosting and infrastructure providers that run our database, authentication, and application backend on our behalf.
  • Paddle.com Market Ltd ("Paddle"), our Merchant of Record for all paid purchases. When you buy a subscription or one-time item, Paddle collects and processes your billing name, email, billing address, payment method details, and transaction data in order to take payment, handle taxes, issue invoices, and process refunds and chargebacks. Paddle's own privacy notice governs that processing.
  • Third-party content platforms (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, etc.) when you choose to link videos — those platforms' privacy policies govern the linked content.
  • Professional advisers and authorities when required by law.

We do not sell your personal data.

Data retention

We keep your account and profile data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove personal profile data within 30 days, except where we need to keep records longer to meet legal, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, or safety obligations (for example, payment records are typically retained for up to 7 years, and moderation records related to reported abuse may be retained to protect the community). Backups are rotated on a rolling basis and purged in the normal course.

Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), encrypted storage at the database layer, access controls, and least-privilege permissions. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. You can exercise most of these through your profile page or by contacting us. If you're in the UK/EEA you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Your choices

You can edit or delete your check-ins and quest submissions at any time. Ask us through the profile page to delete your account and we will remove your personal profile data. Some content (like reported abuse records) may be kept to protect the community.

Cookies

We use only essential cookies and local storage needed to keep you signed in and to remember basic preferences. We do not use advertising cookies.

Changes

We may update this policy. We'll change the "last updated" date above when we do.
